Special Day at Shongum Lake for P.G. Chambers School

On August 22, 2011, the Shongum Lake beach team and lifeguards hosted a picnic for a group of 21 students and their families from P.G. Chambers School in Cedar Knolls. Founded in 1954, P.G. Chambers School offers a wide range of educational and therapeutic programs designed to help children with learning, physical, speech and language, and sensory disorders develop the skills they need to realize their unique talents and capabilities.
For some of the students, this was their first time at a lake, and first time in the water. By mid afternoon, many of the students were being ferried around the swim area on top of surfboards guided by the lifeguards. Some even ventured out to the dock, while others toured the lake in kayaks, canoes, and row boats captained by the lifeguards and other volunteers. Throughout the day, there was one common denominator among all the students, lifeguards, parents, teachers, siblings, and volunteers: everyone was smiling, and it was absolutely clear that "Every Hour is Happy at Shongum Lake". Especially today!
