Lake Management Sciences (LMS) monitors Shongum Lake bi-weekly from April to October to assess the general ecological condition of the lake and watershed, observe the growth of aquatic plants and algae, and potential sources of external nutrient loading. They then recommend herbicide and/or algaecide treatments if needed. Notices of treatment are posted around the lake and on the bulletin board at the beach.
Garden State Laboratories performs weekly chemical and bacterial sampling and analysis, as required by New Jersey Department of Health Recreational Bathing Regulations (N.J.A.C. 8:26-1 et seq).
